Oil-Injected vs. Oil-Free Technology

Oil-Injected Rotary Screw Compressors Oil is injected directly into the compression chamber (oil-flooded). The oil performs three critical functions: lubrication, sealing of the rotor clearances, and intensive cooling. This enables high pressure ratios in a single stage.

The oil is then efficiently separated in a high-performance oil separator with a pressure drop of less than 0.2 bar, before the air continues to the aftercooler and dryer.

Oil-Free Rotary Screw Compressors Compression takes place completely dry (oil-free). The rotors are coated with ceramic or PTFE-based layers, and the housing features extremely tight clearances. To manage the high compression temperatures (up to 200–250 °C), two-stage compression with intercooling is often used. This delivers 100 % oil-free compressed air according to ISO 8573-1 Class 0 – ideal for critical processes in the food, pharmaceutical, and electronics industries.
